All parents with young children from babies to pre-Kindergarten age are welcome at Little Mumbulla.
Playgroup is seen as an extension of home and we come together as a family to share in play, mealtimes, craft and the daily activities that nurture the home environment. We focus on creating a loving, safe and warm mood to nourish the children and provide support and friendship to parents.
Our Playgroup is based on the ideas of the Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner. This means great importance is placed on:
- Creating an environment in which the young child (0-5 years) feels safe and secure.
- Allowing children the space to play as play is seen as the young child’s “work”.
- Nurturing the children’s sensory experience of the world.
- Encouraging reverence for the natural world.
- Recognizing that children learn through imitation, repetition and doing.
What we learn in Playgroup can flow into our homes and enrich our lives.
The Playgroup sessions follow a simple rhythm that creates a sense of security for children as they soon come to know what to expect. Gentle transition songs are used to help one activity flow into the next.
We focus on the rhythm of the seasons through songs, stories and craft and we celebrate with festivals and seasonal food.
The colour, feel and furnishings of the Playgroup room create a warm homelike environment. Simple natural materials are provided for imaginative play. We have a delightful enclosed garden outside with a good sized sandpit and no end of things for the children to discover.
Mealtimes at Little Mumbulla are a wholesome, nourishing experience. We begin each Playgroup session with bread making, and the loaves that we make are then shared at our meal.
Little Mumbulla Playgroup is a welcoming community. There are many ways that parents can be involved including networking, gardening and sharing ideas.
Session fees are $100 per term per family (up to 2 children, $20 for each additional child).
If you choose to withdraw your child during the school term, full term fees still apply unless an arrangement has been made with the Business Manager.
